What’s up Daily Chores readers!
Wick here, back with another monthly recap. April was a busy one!
First month as a full time farmer. Still feels like a dream.
We started this month by adding 50 laying hens to our flock! We were quickly selling out of eggs with only 20 chickens so needed to quickly increase egg supply and Texas laying hens on facebook came to the rescue and delivered 50 mature chickens already laying so that has been great. Currently getting around 4 dozen a day but still selling out at our Arlington drop (every other Friday) because y’all are awesome people so we are making plans to seriously expand egg production but want to do that the right way so stay tuned.
We celebrated Easter out here which is always one of the best weekends of the year. We have been getting together for the last 29 years with extended family on my Dad’s side and we are just so blessed to have the family that we do it’s so great catching up with everyone and spending time together. Easter Sunday we gather and worship our risen savior Jesus! Just a special weekend and of course had all the kids down with the chickens collecting eggs which was a little chaotic but they had a lot of fun.
Next big news was our broiler meat chickens arrived! Picked them up from the post office and they have spent the last 2 weeks in the brooder growing and getting ready to be moved out onto the pasture in a week. We are going to get them cut up into parts (breasts, wings, tenders, and leg quarters) and sell them in a bundled box shipped to your door (or possibly picked up from drop location if you want to save a few bucks on shipping)! Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to do a la carte at the moment but hopefully one day as we continue to grow we can make that happen for y’all.
We want to make it as convenient as possible for you to get our food! We heard from several people that they just wanted to set a recurring order for eggs so we created the Egg Club! If you join you get priority for your order which honestly might be pretty important as we continue to sell out.
